On the other side of the country,
North Mecklenburg (Huntersville, N.C.) standout
Isaiah Evans was putting together a
signature performance himself on Friday. The five-star Duke signee erupted for a
season-high 44 points while shooting 16-of-19 from the field in a 108-64 triumph over Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.).
Heading into the Spalding Hoophall Classic earlier this month, Evans was averaging 26.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 2.3 steals per game while shooting 55 percent from the field, 44 percent from 3-point
range and 80 percent from the free throw line.
Known for his scoring prowess, Evans set a new school record with a career-high 62 points in a 105-92 double-overtime victory against Chambers (Charlotte, N.C.) in the NCHSAA Class 4A state quarterfinals last season. That performance ranks No. 7 all-time in NCHSAA history.
Evans is regarded as the No. 11 prospect in the Class of 2024 overall. He has guided North Mecklenburg to a record of 17-3 this season as the Vikings sit just outside the MaxPreps Top 25 at No. 33 in the nation in the handpicked top 100.
